What is the SAFE + FAIR mission?
The Safe + Fair Food Company makes living with food allergies a little easier. We provide food-allergic families with products and resources, and we work to raise awareness about what it means to live free from ingredients that cause harm. We support cutting-edge allergy research at Stanford University and stay up-to-date with the latest food allergy innovations.

How did SAFE + FAIR get started?
Over lunch one day, longtime best friends Dave and Pete found themselves sharing food allergy frustrations. Both dads were stressed out by the lack of safe foods for their kids, Abby and Remy, who both happened to have nut allergies.

Fed up with scrutinizing labels and constantly reminding other parents to do so, Dave and Pete agreed: safe products were hard to find or too expensive. Plus, pricey “food allergy brands” totally failed to appeal to the nut-allergic kids—much less the non-allergic ones. No fun for anyone!

Dave and Pete set out to make living with food allergies easier and more delicious for families like theirs. The founders set their sights on creating products both safe for food-allergic kids AND so appealing that all kids would love them.

This work is critical in a world of escalating food allergies.

What common food allergens are SAFE + FAIR products free from?
All of our products are free from peanuts and tree nuts. Our Cheddar Mac & Cheese is free from peanuts, tree nuts, and also egg. Our Chips are free from gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, egg, shellfish and fish. We are in the process of creating additional products to address other common food allergies too.
How does SAFE + FAIR ensure foods are free from the food allergens stated on our labels, packaging, and product pages?
The Safe + Fair Food Company follows 16 proprietary measures to ensure our products are safe and of the highest quality. We rigorously audit and continuously monitor our partners to maintain a high-quality supply chain.

Extensive technical information is required on every raw material and ingredient used in our products. We audit and then validate the manufacturing and production facilities of our products and ingredients by location. Our manufacturing plants are dedicated peanut-free and tree-nut-free, and all the ingredients we purchase are also from peanut-free and tree-nut-free facilities. Each and every food production lot is tested for: peanut, almond, hazelnut, walnut, cashew, pistachio, macadamia, Brazil, coconut and pecan. Other food allergens like egg, milk, soy, wheat, fish and shellfish are tracked and isolated in our facilities. These allergens are clearly noted on packaging if they are used in our products or processed in our facilities.

We are confident to say our policies have been validated by the leading independent food allergy laboratories in the United States.

Will SAFE + FAIR make products that address other food allergies?
Yes. SAFE + FAIR plans to create products that are free from all the Top 8 most common allergens: peanuts, tree nuts, egg, milk, soy, wheat, shellfish and fish.
What does "clean label" mean?
The term "clean label" reflects a growing desire among consumers for the foods they eat to contain natural, recognizable, and safe ingredients. SAFE + FAIR creates foods that are both clean label and clearly labeled, so you can make the best choices for you as well as your family, friends, and community. At SAFE + FAIR, we create products that are not only free from many common food allergens, but also free from artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives too. Additionally, our products never contain trans fats, high-fructose corn syrup, or hydrogenated oils. All of our products are made with non-GMO ingredients.

To gauge product freshness, look for the “best by” date shown on each package. On some of our products, you will find this date noted in numbers at the end of the lot code in the format MonthDateYear (for example, 030719). Our products have varying shelf lives. Look for the "best by" date on your packaging.

All segments. Most of our products are available to kids across the United States through the education segment. Any segment that desires to serve clean label food would be a fit for our products.
Do SAFE + FAIR products meet the USDA Guidelines under the Health and Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010?
Yes. All products are whole grain and meet the nutritional guidelines to be served in all K-12 schools across the United States.
